Reason for blogging / Know Thyself

The below quotes will explain the reason I blog at A Particularly Persistent Point of View, with the petty tyrant, Mr. Tiger.

Know Thyself. --Socrates

"You cannot understand perceived events unless you understand who perceives them. You must learn more about the slant of your own consciousness before you are in a position to ask truly pertinent questions about the reality you perceive." - Seth; The Unknown Reality, II

Try to understand that what you usually call "I" is not I; there are many "I's"and each "I" has a different wish. Try to verify this. You wish to change, but which part of you has this wish? Many parts of you want many things, but only one part is real. It will be very useful for you to try to be sincere with yourself. Sincerity is the key which will open the door through which you will see your separate parts, and you will see something quite new. You must go on trying to be sincere. Each day you put on a mask, and you must take it off little by little. - VIEWS FROM THE REAL WORLD; George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff

"Man is a plural being. When we speak of ourselves ordinarily, we speak of 'I'. We say 'I' did this, 'I' think this, 'I' want to do this - but this is a mistake. There is no such 'I', or rather there are hundreds, thousands of little 'I's in every one of us. We are divided in ourselves, but we cannot recognise the plurality of our being except by observation and study. At one moment it is one 'I' that acts, at the next moment it is another 'I'. It is because the 'I's in ourselves are contradictory that we do not function harmoniously." - Views from the Real World; George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff

"Man's possibilities are very great, you cannot conceive even a shadow of what man is capable of attaining. But modern man lives in sleep, in sleep he is born, and in sleep he dies. In the consciousness of the sleeping man his illusions, his "dreams" are mixed with reality. He lives in a subjective world and he can never escape from it. And this is the reason why he can never make use of all the powers he possesses and why he always lives in only a small part of himself." In Search of the Miraculous; - P.D. Ouspensky

"... All that is required is impeccability, energy, and that begins with a single act that has to be deliberate, precise, and sustained. If that act is repeated long enough, one acquires a sense of unbending intent , which can be applied to anything else. If that is accomplished the road is clear. One thing will lead to another until the warrior realizes his full potential." - Carlos Castaneda; The Fire From Within

"To see our true Self we must have clean, clear, calm minds." - Sri Swami Satchidananda

"Whether your destiny is glory or disgrace, Purify yourself of hatred and love of self. Polish your mirror; and that sublime Beauty
From the regions of mystery
Will flame out in your heart
As it did for the saints and prophets.
Then, with your heart on fire with that Splendor,
The secret of the Beloved will no longer be hidden."
Jami; - 'Perfume of the Desert'

"I wonder from these thousand of "me's," which one am I?
Listen to my cry, do not drown my voice
I am completely filled with the thought of you.
Don't lay broken glass on my path
I will crush it into dust.
I am nothing, just a mirror in the palm of your hand, reflecting your kindness, your sadness, your anger.
If you were a blade of grass or a tiny flower
I will pitch my tent in your shadow.
Only your presence revives my withered heart.
You are the candle that lights the whole world
and I am an empty vessel for your light."
Rumi; - "Hidden Music"

Be Impeccable With Your Words ~ Don't Take Anything Personally ~ Don't Make Assumptions ~ Always Do Your Best~ - don Miguel Ruiz; - "The Four Agreements"

"During the spiritual growing up period the inner conflict can be more or less stormy. Mine was about average. The self-centered nature is a very formidable enemy and it struggles fiercely to retain its identity. It defends itself in a cunning manner and should not be regarded lightly. It knows the weakest spots of your armor and attempts a confrontation when one is least aware. During these periods of attack, maintain a humble stature and be intimate with none but the guiding whisper of your higher self." - Mildred Norman; AKA, PEACE PILGRIM

"You cannot understand perceived events unless you understand who perceives them. You must learn more about the slant of your own consciousness before you are in a position to ask truly pertinent questions about the reality you perceive." Seth; The Unknown Reality, II

"...A petty tyrant is a tormentor. Someone who either holds the power of life and death over warriors or simply annoys them to distraction. Petty tyrants teach us detachment. The ingredients of the new seers' strategy shows how efficient and clever is the device of using a petty tyrant. The strategy not only gets rid of self-importance; it also prepares warriors for the final realization that impeccability is the only thing that counts in the path of knowledge." - Carlos Castaneda; The Fire From Within

"So long as we do not die to ourselves, and so long as we identify with someone or something, we shall never be free.
The spiritual way is not for those wrapped up in exterior life."
- Farid ud Din Attar; Sufi saint and mystic
